General Terms and Conditions of the Invitation to Tender (ITT)
Ríkiskaup on behalf of Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic studies, ID. No. 700806-0490, issues this invitation to tender for design of an exhibition.
Therefore only limited set of rules according to the Icelandic Public Procurement Act. No. 120/2016 (PPA) apply, notably those that fall under chapters VIII., XI. and XII., as stated in Article 92 (3) of the PPA.
The exhibition should appeal to a diverse range of visitors, including children and adults with different interests and background. The majority of visitors are expected to be foreign tourists, but the exhibition should also attract local visitors. The only objects on display are all manuscripts (codices or leaves). While the safety and continued preservation of the manuscripts is of the utmost importance, it is a part of the design concept to highlight their value for Icelandic culture and history and their significance for the world’s cultural heritage. The content of the manuscripts is rich and meaningful, and the exhibition must reflect that richness and show the influence they have had and still have on our lives.

The design should incorporate various forms of media (e.g., text, interactive elements, visual presentations, projections, drawings, animation, and educational videos) in addition to the manuscripts that are the cornerstone of the exhibition.
As the development of the Icelandic language will also be a part of the exhibition the design should find interesting and lively ways to show the diversity and development of the language in ways that people feel are relevant to them and their lives. To give an idea of the scope of the exhibition and financial capacity the total financial budget of the exhibition is estimated at 230-250 million IKR (1.600.000 – 1.800.000 EUR). That includes design, installation, and equipment. A special web of the exhibition, an exhibition catalogue, and the design of artefacts for sale in a museum shop is part of the total budget but is not part of this tender. This tender focuses only on certain design parts, with a cost estimation of approximately 90 million ISK.
