Hraðferli:
A serious malfunction in one of the Icelandic Cost Guards (ICG) vessel engines has left the ICG with only one ship in full function and one in half capacity. Because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, seismic activity on the south-west peninsula and increasing population of vessels and other transports expected in coming months (the beginning of tourist season where at least two entertainment and Luxor cruise ships have announced regular visits in Iceland). The Icelandic tourism industry accounts for 40 % of the country’s foreign currency revenues. This tender is meant to secure safety in uncertain times. The Icelandic Cost Guards vessels are a vital part of the security and can provide necessary assistance for example if the electric grid fails. Safety is the primary concern.
